The Great War in Women’s Experience and Writing

The tradition of canonical war writing has long been seen as something belonging to men; on the contrary, for many women the First World War was a sort of catalyst for developing a public voice while at the same time creating a different gender perspective on the same historical event. This aspect has become evident since the last two decades of the Twentieth Century when cultural historians, memory studies and gender studies, pointed out not only the inadequacy of a monolithic memory but also the many traces left by women’s controversial memories of the same event in the collective consciousness. In this perspective the numerous European female writings ( memoirs and autobiographies in particular) show the extent to which First World War turned upside down the relationships of individuals with the ‘symbolic order’ in which they had grown up. The outpouring of European female writing reveals both the impact war had on women in finding new social roles and their different political positions in European women’s suffrage movement. The danger threatening the homeland led to the apparent negation of the traditional view of opposing male and female roles and positions in the society, resumed, nevertheless, later at the end of the war.
In order to solemnize the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War (Italy entered the war exactly 100 years ago) La Camera Blu intends to dedicate a whole number to the topic. Abstracts should be submitted by May 15, 2015 to the addresses guidi@unina.it, anmalam@libero.it with the following elements: Name, Institution, Contact Details (email, telephone), Title, Abstract (2000 words), a brief Curriculum Vitae (200 words)
Acceptance of proposals will be sent by June 10 together with the editing rules. The final version must be sent by the first week of September.
Papers intended for the sections ‘The Topic’ and ‘Research Workshop’ will be submitted to a double blind peer review.
Languages accepted: Italian, French, English, Spanish
The final publication of the review is intended for the end of December 2015.

La Grande Guerra nella scrittura delle donne

La guerra è stata a lungo ritenuta esperienza esclusivamente maschile, letta, scritta e interpretata secondo categorie che escludevano il genere. Da tempo al centro dell’attenzione di studiose e letterate, la topica di guerra ha dimostrato, al contrario, quanto l’evento traumatico abbia segnato la storia delle donne, il loro percorso di vita e di emancipazione. In maniera significativa gli studi di genere hanno messo in evidenza lo sguardo femminile sulla Grande Guerra, uno sguardo variegato che ha modificato categorie storiografiche e ampliato la prospettiva della ricerca. La partecipazione delle donne, mai così numerose e attive, in precedenza, sul palcoscenico della Storia, si è tradotta, in un numero straordinario e rivelatore di casi, in esperienza di scrittura da un’ottica che mette in evidenza un capitolo ancora poco noto della Storia delle donne insieme con aspetti poco esplorati dalla storiografia ufficiale.
In occasione del centenario della prima guerra mondiale, La camera blu vi invita a proporre sotto forma di ABSTRACT contributi inediti che trattino il tema della Grande guerra nella scrittura delle donne : in particolare, scritture diaristiche, memorialistiche ed epistolari, compresi gli scritti di bambine, o i ricordi d’infanzia relativi al periodo bellico. Tuttavia saranno considerati per la pubblicazione anche altre tipologie di scrittura, ad es. opere poetiche o narrative femminili ispirate all’esperienza di guerra.
Gli abstract devono avere la lunghezza massima di 2000 battute e riportare nome, istituzione di riferimento, email, telefono, del/la proponente. Vanno inviati entro il 15 maggio 2015 a guidi@unina.it; anmalam@libero.it, insieme con un breve profilo delle autrici/degli autori (max 200 caratteri).
Le lingue ammesse sono: italiano, francese, inglese, spagnolo
Entro il 10 giugno saranno comunicate le decisioni della redazione sulle proposte e alle autrici/agli autori selezionati verranno inviate le norme redazionali. Gli articoli dovranno pervenire alle curatrici entro la prima settimana di settembre 2015. Quelli destinati alle sezioni “Il Tema” e “Laboratorio di ricerca” saranno sottoposti a double blind peer review.
La pubblicazione del numero è prevista per la fine del 2015.
